Building on Success

We built our business and our experience one client at a time.

BoS Developers

Dr. Bill Roiter and Dr. Stu Koman each have more than twenty years of successful business and executive counseling experience. They have joined together in Roiter/Koman Partners to offer unique, and highly individualized, life planning services.

Both Bill and Stu are qualified to assist you in the process of personal discovery by virtue of having traveled this road themselves.

Both are psychologists, organizational and executive consultants, and entrepreneurs who have held key positions within successful companies.

Early success as healthcare professionals led to significant achievements in business and industry, and, consequently, the opportunity to choose their next career. Like you, they faced many challenges along the way, overcame adversity, survived bailouts, buyouts, mergers, and acquisitions - and came out whole.

Both individuals value their independence as well as their life connections. Building on Success is a natural integration of lessons learned and choices made.

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Steve Krugman has now joined the BoS team and is available to work with our clients.  Steve brings great experience and is participating in the development of the next round BoS initiatives.

William A. Roiter, Founder

Dr. Bill Roiter is President of Executive Performance Consultation (EPC). A psychologist and businessperson who has been consulting to businesses since 1978, he has provided individual consultation to many senior executives, and has assisted organizations as they have implemented both planned and sudden changes.

During this time he has started and sold three successful businesses, the most recent a venture capital-backed communications software company with AT&T as a strategic business partner.

His own management experience includes: ten years as a managing partner of a growing professional service firm; three years as a vice president of Value Behavioral Health (NYSE) with regional operating and national sales responsibilities; and three years as the senior vice president for sales and marketing of a high technology company.

Bill returned to independent consultation in October 1996. He provides coaching to senior executives at some of Boston's best-known businesses. Building on Success results from client requests for this type of service.

Bill's clinical training includes a Doctoral degree from Boston University, and extended training at McLean Hospital and at Harvard University. He has published two successful multimedia training programs through the Bureau of National Affairs.

Stuart Koman, Founder

With an extensive background in healthcare and business, Dr. Stu Koman has used his diverse knowledge to provide creative insight and strategic direction in numerous projects of both types.

Stu was a senior executive in a large behavioral healthcare company, and later, was founder and CEO of Choate Health Systems, a start-up that went to almost $50 million in five years. The company was sold to one of the industry leaders, Merit Behavioral Care, in 1995. Since then, Stu has applied his healthcare training and business experience to establish a multi-faceted consulting practice.

Stu's current work focuses on leaders and leadership issues in government and business. His clients represent a diversity of backgrounds and fields, whose primary challenges include motivating and achieving successful change in a dynamic world. Whether the issues are at the individual/personal, unit/team, or system/corporation level, the approach has to take into account all the factors and variables that define that unique entity, establish the preferred direction, and promote active choice in the process.

Stu received his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Duke University (1981) and was a practicing psychotherapist for over ten years. As a clinical supervisor and teacher affiliated with several medical and professional schools, Stu has worked with many psychologists and psychiatrists in training.

In addition, he has numerous publications, including the critically acclaimed Handbook of Adolescents and Family Therapy (Allyn and Bacon, 1986), co-edited with Marsha P. Merkin. Stu continues to provide limited clinical services to disadvantaged adolescents on a pro bono basis.

Steven Krugman, Senior Director

Dr. Steven Krugman is a clinical and consulting psychologist with 30 years of experience working with individuals, couples, and organizations.  His consultation practice focuses on work with senior executives, managers, and entrepreneurs seeking to enhance their effectiveness and achieve greater balance in their lives. In recent years he has worked with many successful people looking to thoughtfully restructure their adult lives.  He has an ongoing interest in dual career marriages, and works intensively with couples to manage life transitions.  This interest and experience has motivated him to work with the BoS program, and to join in its future development.

Steve has been on the staff of Harvard University's Health Service, was the Director of Training and Development at The Trauma Center at Massachusetts General Hospital, and is currently on the faculty of the Department of Psychiatry at Mass.
